Feb 16, 2009 Ah success. Finally after 7 days of working to find a way around the big mountain with the big ball (Sip Song is what is called on Google Earth which means 15). It is a radar station for the military so restricted. And I have now spent a lot of timeContinue reading “Phuket High Trail Continued into 2009”

Guidebook for Phuket High Trail Section A
After 14 days or so of exploring and picking routes and then getting my new GPS (Garmin 60 CSX) and going out and hiking the first 15 kms., it is time to write some form of guidebook entry while it is fresh in my mind. We went out 2 days ago (Sunday Sept 21st)Continue reading “Guidebook for Phuket High Trail Section A”
Trailblazing in Phuket
I am hoping to walk the high peaks and create a hiking route from the southern end of PHuket at Laem Prom Thep to the bridge which forms the northern point at Sarasin bridge. The crow flies this route in only 30 miles, but i expect my trail, when finished will be about 100 miles. Continue reading “Trailblazing in Phuket”
My “Russell Stover” candy story and finish of my ’98 thru of the CDT
Since bear stories have seem to be in demand lately, here’s another one from my travels and hikes. Enjoy I did a thru-hike of the CDT in ’98 starting in the “bootheel” of New Mexico and finishing up in Waterton Lakes Provincial Park in Canada. The water was bubbling out of the ground like artesan wells all over the place and the trail became a river. One day we hadContinue reading “Black Bear Protecting her 2 cubs”

Owl Story from CDT hike ’98
Hiking along the CDT (Continental Divide Trail) in Colorado back in ’98 one day when I came across one of the most picturesque campsites. I was prepared to do some more miles yet that day as I had winter in the back of my mind and although i was not “running for the border” asContinue reading “Owl Story from CDT hike ’98”
My Backpacking Stove Collection
I guess it’s hard to get rid of memories. Going through my garage last time I was looking for an old backpack of mine (or was it a sleeping bag?) I saw quite an assortment of my old stoves from past backpacking trips. I still have my Svea from my 1st Appalacian Trail hike inContinue reading “My Backpacking Stove Collection”
Story about our trek in Nepal March, 2004
Rainman has just left for home and it is quiet enough to write a bit. Pink Floyd on softly, birds chirping outside, no plans till tonight when we go to the monkey temple and gambling. It does feel good to be back in Nepal, a place that I fell in and out of loveContinue reading “Story about our trek in Nepal March, 2004”
